Stephen Ministry
“I lift up my eyes to the hills—From where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:1-2
When a loved one is suffering, either physically or emotionally, we can feel powerless to help. Often there seems to be nothing we can do to “fix” the problem that is causing their pain. We can feel helpless and hopeless, unable to make a difference in this situation.
This helpless feeling can be overwhelming as we watch our own adult child go through a painful divorce, our best friend grieve the loss of a son, an adult grandchild recovering from an accident, a neighbor facing a terminal illness.
Sometimes we choose not to get involved and then feel as if we have abandoned our loved one. On the other hand, if we become too involved and offer unwanted advice we can inadvertently alienate the loved one rather than help them. We may be making a mistake whichever way we turn and jeopardize our own health by worrying.
Although we may feel inadequate, it is good to get involved. If we act, the loved one know we care. A simple word, a card, or a gentle touch can send the message of your concern. However, with your loved one’s consent you or your loved one, could requesting the care of a Stephen Minister. We can help you by providing information to you about what Stephen Ministry is all about.
Stephen Ministers are “trained listeners” who provide confidential, compassionate care to hurting people in Christ’s name. They pray, empathize, encourage, and emotionally support their care receiver as together they work through the crisis.
It you feel helpless, our Stephen Ministry may be able to help you find the help you need. Call the church office for more information.
