Baptism is such an exciting event within the church and the life of the individual being baptized. Within the Lutheran church we will baptize all who come seeking Christ, adults or infants. As a Lutheran church we define a sacrament as an outward and visible sign of a inward and invisible grace from God. As such, we practice two sacraments, Holy Communion and Holy Baptism. In baptism, we feel the love of Christ as the water flows over our head and into the font. We believe that in the waters of Holy Baptism the triune God delivers us from the forces of evil, puts our sinful self to death, gives us new birth, adopts us as children, and marks us as members of the body of Christ, the Church.
The sacrament itself takes place in the midst of worship as a sign that in baptism we are made one with Christ and with the whole people of God. On behalf of the whole church we promise to support our new sister/brother, confess the faith with them, and welcome them into the body of Christ.
